Major Mark Malloy, a 31 year veteran of the Highway Patrol, is currently assigned as the Deputy Chief of Central Command, having operational responsibility and oversight for traffic and commercial operations along with support services.
Traffic Operations is responsible for the safe travel of motorists on Nevada’s highways through enforcement and crash investigation along with other duties. Commercial Operations includes the safety inspection of commercial motor vehicles and their drivers, hazardous materials, special fuels, oversize and overweight enforcement and school bus and tow truck inspections. The support services sections include the Communications Center, Front Office, Court / Warrant and garage and radio shop.
Major Malloy joined the Highway Patrol in 1979. Upon completion of Academy XIII he was assigned as a Trooper in Reno. In 1981, he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to Beatty. Major Malloy transferred to Elko as a Corporal in 1985. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1986 in Elko when the Corporal’s positions were eliminated from the Patrol. In 1990, he transferred to Headquarters in Carson City as a Sergeant working for General Services Bureau. In 1991, Major Malloy was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Las Vegas. In 2001, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to Headquarters, General Services Bureau. In 2002, Major Malloy was reassigned to Elko with the formation of the Central Command. In July 2007 he was promoted the current rank as Deputy Chief of Central Command.
Major Malloy graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
