Lt. Powell started his law enforcement career with the
Nevada Highway Patrol in July 1996, where he was assigned to the
Carson/Tahoe/Minden District. From July 1996 to 2003, Lt. Powel
supported the Highway Patrol mission, working in various duty
assignments including Dignitary Protection Detail (DPD), liaison with
the Office of Criminal Justice Assistance and traffic operations. Most
notably, from 1998 to 2001, Lt. Powell took the lead in the Research and
Development section for the Highway Patrol Division.
In 2003, Lt. Powell was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
and was temporarily assigned to the Major Crimes Section of the
Department of Public Safety’s Investigation Division.
In November of 2003, Lt. Powell officially transferred
to the Investigation Division and was promoted to Lieutenant as the
Commander for the Elko Combined Narcotics Unit (ECNU) in Elko, Nevada.
In February 2005, Lt. Powell was assigned the additional detail as the
Commander of the Eastern Nevada Narcotics Task Force (ENNTF) in Ely,
Nevada.
Lt. Powell has spent 18 years in numerous capacities
with the U.S. Army and the Nevada National Guard. He is a graduate of
the University Nevada, Reno with a degree in Business (Information
Systems). Lt. Powell is also a graduate of Northwestern University
Police Staff and Command 247.
In February of 2006, Lt. Powell transferred back to the
Highway Patrol Division. Upon returning back, Lt. Powell has held
various duty assignments including Area Commander for the
Carson/Tahoe/Minden District, Northern Command Administrative Lieutenant
and Dispatch Commander.
